《红楼梦》两种译文翻译策略的对比

A Contrastive Study in Translation Strategy of Two Versions of A Dream of Red Mansions

在《红楼梦》的众多英译版本中杨宪益夫妇的译本和霍克斯的译本相较而言是比较具有代表性的。对《红楼梦》这两种英译本的翻译策略进行比较赏析,分别从语言层面和文化层面来揭示两种译本的差异以及两种译本分别使用了异化和归化的翻译方法的原因及效果。以此得出结论:一部好的译作,应在语言层面上运用归化的翻译策略,而在文化层面上应保留原作的文化背景即运用异化的策略。

This article does a contrastive study in translation strategy of the two well-known English versions of A Dream of Red Mansions by Yang xianyi and David Hawkes respectively. Studying from language aspect and culture aspect, and comparing the translation strategy of foreignization and domestication, the differences, reasons and influence of the two versions are uncovered. At last, the article concludes that priority should be given to domestication as far as language expression is concerned, whereas foreignization is a better choice in cultural translation.
