This paper analyzes the present status of the voltage regulator, and elaborates the need of automatic voltage control （AVC） in power stations, It also discusses the AVC principle, AVC design （including hardware, mode settings, .and reactive power principle of distribution）, realization of the functions and non-normal conditions treatment.
