The award winning Australian Garden on Melbourne＇s outskirts is a celebration of Australian flora, landscapes and architecture. The Australian landscape is on show in the 15 different exhibition gardens and displays. The Australian Garden-part of the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne-features approximately 100 000 plants, including 1 000 trees. Testimony to the brilliant conceptual and visitor experience, the second stage of the Australian Garden is in progress and the newly-opened Woodland Picnic Area is a recent addition to the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne. New Australian Garden projects on the horizon include an extension of the Visitor Centre and the Ian Potter Lakeside Precinct, with space for 1 500 people to enjoy cultural events. Despite the accolades, many Melbournians still don＇t know about these one-of-a-kind gardens. But that is set to change as positive word-of-mouth lures more people here and the landscape architecture turns heads.
