Discussion and Thinking of Inheriting the Ancient Chinese Garden Traditions

中国古代园林研究渐入佳境。其优点与成就的研究必不可少,缺点与不足亦当重视。肯定成就是主流与完整总结正反经验,皆影响中国园林健康发展。提出:辨析"自然"的不同含义,使形式差异与水平高下相别;科学评价古代"天人合一"思想与现代生态学的关系,避免对其简单、表面理解;科学评价西方园林美学成就及中西园林异同,肯定"意境"这一中国园林美学核心范畴的同时,对中西园林审美的相同和相似性进行探讨。

Nowadays, the research on ancient Chinese garden has been greatly improved; however, it mostly emphasizes the advantages and achievements while ignoring the flaws and deficiencies in the specific study. Based on the acceptance that the successes and merits of ancient Chinese garden are mainstreams, if only when summarizing both the positive and negative experience completely, may Chinese garden art get its healthy development. It is proposed in this article that： It is necessary to differentiate the ＂nature＂ in ＂natural style＂ and the ＂nature＂ in the real natural environment, as well as the distinction between art form and the art level of the Chinese garden. Rational and objective judgment should be given to the connection and difference between the ancient Chinese idea ＂the integrity of human and universe＂ and foundation, while rough understanding only literally without consideration to context should be avoid. The achievements of Western garden art should also be asserted rationally, and correct evaluation on the artistic conception in Western gardens should be made. It is convincing that the artistic conception is the core conception in Chinese garden art, but meanwhile, attention should also be paid to the similar phenomenon in Western garden art and the scientific and systemic research on it.
