Barriers for Reading Classical Chinese Publications and the Countermeasures

大量实例表明,古籍出版物的文字阅读障碍有两类,一是假借字、古今字、异体字和联绵字等文言特殊用字法造成的障碍,一是以形近致误、繁简转换失误、字迹模糊和其他失误为原因的文字舛造成的障碍。遇到这些障碍时,要认真分析文意,从文言特殊用字法和汉字的形、声、义及其关系等角度,找到产生障碍的具体原因,有针对性地进行具体分析,以克服其具体障碍。

Large quantities of instances from classical Chinese publications indicate two sorts of barriers for reading： one is that of such special wording as jiajiezi （loan words）, gujinzi （past and present characters）, yitizi （Chinese character variants） and lianmianzi （compound word consisting of two characters, often alliterated or rhymed） ,and the other is that of errors by similar formation, by transformation from unsimplifled form to simplified one, by vague characters in transcription and by other causes. When such barriers are encountered, it is necessary to analyze the meanings in context from the aspects of special uses in classical Chinese as well as the form,sound, sense and relation. It＇s also essential to find out the specific cause for barriers and overcome them.
