A Trinity View on Shen Congwen's Novel The Border Town

一部《边城》,主要地点并不放在茶峒城,而是放在茶峒河支流"碧溪"上溯三里,或翻山而过仅一里的碧溪岨。碧溪岨是主人公主要活动场所,而茶峒城只是他们重要活动场所。就这两个空间来说,作品向我们展示了两个层面世界,加上主人公生活的大小自然地理环境,《边城》实际向我们展示了三个层面的世界,即:美丽而愁人的自然、天人合一的碧溪岨、被"文明"浸染的茶峒城。这三个层面的世界不是分割存在,而是"合三为一"的艺术独创。

The major site in The Border Town is not in Chadong town,but in Bixiju,a rock-covered hill in the upper branch of the Chadong River not far away from the town. Chadong town,Bixiju,and the natural environment where the leading character lived, are the three indispensable worlds that the author presents to the readers,and they are the author＇s unique and artistic creation.
