"莫"由否定副词发展成为测度副词。许多语言中的事实都表明:否定性语素在语音上缺乏独立性,常需要其他词汇性成分的支持。因此,从整个否定词系统来看,"莫"发展为测度副词应是语言发展中个体特殊性的体现。"莫不"、"莫不是"与"莫非‘的形成过程也不尽相同。
