摘要
由日本"批判佛教"引起的国际学术界的反响与回应目前似乎已告一段落,但对于这一学术事件的思想史背景与方法论的反思却意犹未尽。由于"批判佛教"涉及佛学义理批判、社会现实批判以及哲学文化反省等诸多方面,因此显得颇为错综与复杂。而就已有的回应与反思来看,其大多局限在各个单独的层面展开批判,并没有系统地考察不同批判层面之间的微妙关联以及批判佛教的方法论成因与现代性背景,因而在整体上的反思还是不够深入的。事实上,"批判佛教"这一关乎东亚佛教思想传统的反省与批判之所以能引起中、日以及北美学者之间的分歧与争论,其在佛学义理之争的背后隐匿着复杂的方法论立场与现代性因素,并且是一个典型的现代性学术事件。因此,只有在现代性的语境下,透过纯粹的佛教义理之辨,才能真正厘清"批判佛教"及其相关思想论争的问题。
"Critical Buddhism" and its responses in the international academic field seems to have come to an end now, but the reflection on the background of intellectual history and methodology still has not ended. Because "Critical Buddhism" and its criticism involved many aspects such as Buddhist theo- ry, social reality and reflection of philosophy, etc, it shows complicated situation. On the current re- sponses of academic study, researchers have launched a multi-level criticism and reflection, but it still seems lack of systematic study of different critical aspects of the delicate link in modernity, thus the study of background of intellectual history and methodology should be thoroughly. In fact, "Critical Buddhism" has gone beyond traditional argumentation over Buddhist scriptures and demonstrated distinct features of modernity background. So we need to examine it within the scope of modernity in order to lay bare the vision of modernity attitude and to clarify the related issues of different debaters hidden in the pure Buddhist theory argument.
