Arural community of 1,400 in a northwestem suburb of Beijing was from the outset a stark break from the stereotype of the Chinese countryside. Zhenggezhuang Village in Beiqijia Town, Changping District has roads that are paved and in good repair, lined by a variety of bustling retail businesses. Here, each morning, villagers stream out of their villa-styled homes and head for their decent jobs in the nearby industrial park.
