The term 'musical performance' in this article pertains to the process beginning with the initial reading of the music through the realization of it on stage or in the recording studio. In music performance the performer’s technical ability is the essential assurance to the quality of music making. Performing technique and skill demonstrate the performer’s controlling ability on the instrument, realized by certain structural functions of the brain system. Therefore, research on the formation of performing technique and skill also explores their physiological origin.
