摘要 There was a time not so long ago when getting almost any- where in China would take you a full night -- or even two -- on a crowded train. Even cities one province over could not be reached in less than eight or ten hours. But December 26 of last year marked the beginning of the end for sleepers and carriages, when a new high-speed railway connecting 1,068 km of land between Wuhan and Guangzhou officially began operation. This line -- which will shorten the trip from 11 hours to less than three -- is the first of a series of high speed lines that will be built over the next few years, modernizing Chinese infrastructure and offing the wheels of business.
