摘要
英语世界的粤剧研究,有三篇博士论文,分别是美国哈佛大学博士论文《粤剧的音乐》、美国匹兹堡大学博士论文《粤剧音乐中的即兴运用》和美国印第安那大学博士论文《广东傀儡戏:戏曲传统及其在中国宗教信仰体系中的角色》,此外,英国的Barbara E.Ward也有一篇专论。这些研究触及到了中国传统戏曲的许多根本问题,例如即兴创作和即兴发挥与应变,粤剧演出中例戏与选择性剧目的特点与功能,粤剧演出的社会与民俗宗教功能等方面,具有较高的学术价值,值得研究探讨。
Among the English scholars' research of Cantonese Yueju Opera and Puppet Show, there are three important English PhD dissertations and also a long article, namely Bell Yung's The Music of Cantonese Chinese Religious Belief System(Indiana University,1978) and Barbara E. Ward's Not Merely Players: Drama, Art and Ritual in Traditional China (1997), which systematically studied the improvisation in Cantonese operatic music, features of the fixed repertoire and the substitute repertoire, the operatic social and folklore conventions and religious functions. These studies are of great academic significance and worth discussing further.
