This paper centers on Liu Bannong＇s theory and writing during the early republican years（1913-1917）.Focusing on the issue of enlightenment and improving the quality of fiction,Liu began his popular fiction writing practice and theoretical exploration.Liu＇s interests in literary form and expression approach of popular literature laid the solid foundation for his later creation in folk literature.
