吴经熊是少数几位能够从容游走于学术与政治之间的近代历史人物之一。他的学术与政治命运最终结局是:半是成功、半是失败。可以说,吴经熊作为一位法学家是成功的,而作为一位政治人物却是失败的。他个人的学术与政治命运反映了近代中国法界知识分子共同面临的社会最终命运——法律救国的道路在近代中国是走不通的。

John C. H. Wu was one of few historical figures who could easily survived freely between learning and politics in modern China. The ultimate end of his academic and political fate was success and failure. We may say that John C. H. Wu was successful as a jurist but was failure as a politician. His academic and political fate reflects the final social destiny that it is impossible to save the nation in legal ways in modern China.
