In his 2009 Pulitzer Prize winning book of poetry The Shadow of Sirius,W.S.Merwin uses the shadow of Sirius as a metaphor,and has produced out of his memories about his childhood,his dogs and his past experience a tender and illuminating collection of poems where his deep concerns about human and nature find their eloquent voices.His deft use of spoken language with no punctuations,employment of surrealistic elements,such as dream scenes and Zen Buddhist consciousness,make his poems full of original images and appealing to imagination.
