悲情与炫耀——华人移民文学中相反的叙事策略

Pathos and Flaunting:Two Antithetic Narrative Strategies of Chinese Migrant Literature

本文从文化全球化的角度,将移民文学置于日益繁忙的跨疆界文化生产领域来进行分析。用英文写作的华人移民为西方主流审美趣味所左右,他们通常采用的叙事策略是书写悲情。用汉语写作的华人移民则以中国大陆的读者为主要对象,其叙事策略通常表现为对西方物质生活的炫耀。这两种叙事方式相互辉映,构成中西文化交流中一个有趣的景观。

This paper examines Chinese migrant literature as a part of border-crossing activities in relation to cultural globalization.Those Chinese migrants who write in English are constrained by market expectations of the mainstream Western culture and their writings tend to be characterized by a feeling of pathos.Those who write in Chinese target their texts mainly at readers on the mainland of China and their writings seem to have a common tendency to flaunt the superior material life in the West,hence the title＂Pathos and Flaunting＂.
