The demand for timber in China and the gap in supply hm2s resulted in increased import of logs year by year. This has raised concerns that China may represent a threat to world forest resources. In this study, an ecological footprint model is used to measure the forest impact embodied by Chinese log imports from 1995 to 2007. Special attention is given to the trend in the ratio between China's forest ecological footprint with respect to imported logs and the biocapacity of the origin of the imports. Chinese log import hm2s increased the forest ecological footprint from Europe, while those from Oceania and Asia, and Africa were less affected. Chinese log demand continues to rely more on domestic supplies. We find little evidence thm2t Chinese log imports present any serious threat to world forest resources.
