International Significance of Supporting the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People by Australia

2009年4月3日,澳大利亚联邦政府发表正式声明,支持《土著人民权利宣言》。这一决定意味着澳大利亚在土著人权领域将接受国际社会的监督,这是联合国在土著人权领域所取得的一次胜利;此举还将推动世界土著人事业的发展,并对其他目前仍对该宣言持反对立场的国家起到一定的警醒作用。

On 3 April 2009,the Australian Commonwealth government issued a formal statement,supporting the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People. This decision means that Australia will be supervised by the international community in the field of indigenous rights. It should be regarded as a UN victory in the field of human rights for indigenous people. This decision will propel the cause of the indigenous movement around the world,and create some warning to and awakening effects on those countries which are still opposing this declaration.
