The Transition of the Imperial Civil Examination System From Tang to Song Dynasties

在中国科举制度史上,唐宋之际是一个变化更革非常之大的时期。唐宋科举制度的变迁,总的趋势是逐渐走向完备、成熟。这一变迁有着深刻的政治、经济、文化背景,并对当时的社会产生了重大影响。就科举制度本身而言,由唐到宋的变迁虽然很大,但这种变迁恐怕并非质的变化,而仍然属于量的、程度上的变化。其质的变化与其说是在唐宋之际,不如说是在南北朝与隋唐之间。

In Chinese ancient history,the imperial civil examination system changed greatly and became comprehensive between the Tang and Song dynasties.This transition has profoundly political,economic,and cultural background,and a significant influence on the society.But it was a quantitative change rather than a qualitative change during the Tang and Song dynasties.It is better to say that the qualitative change happened between the Southern and Northern dynasties and the Sui and Tang dynasties.
