萍乡文氏是萍乡望族,三百年来,人才辈出。序言以史学家鉴识,简析中国源远流长之谱牒学传统及其重大价值,历述从春秋越国大夫文种以来,经两汉、唐五代、两宋、明清迄今文氏家族谱系之流派分支,既繁衍昌盛,又人才辈出。并特别着重理清江右文氏枝系,突出庐陵文天祥、萍乡文廷式的近支关系及其历史地位。这篇序言既是中国谱牒学、姓氏学之重要论文,又为萍乡文化组成作出重要考证。

The Family Wen is a big family in Pingxiang and a lot of talents emerged in the recent 300 years. From the angle of historian, the preface analyzes the long tradition and significance of Chinese genealogy. It states the branch of Family Wen from Wen Zhong of Spring and Autumn Period to Han Dynasty, Tan Dynasty, Song Dynasty, Ming Dynasty, Qing Dynasty, up to today. The genealogy focuses on the Jiangxi branch, attaches great importance to Wen Tianxiang of Jiujiang, Wen Tingshi of Pingxiang and their close branches. It is an important paper of Chinese genealogy and textual of Pingxiang Culture structure.
