On the Decline of Root-seeking Literature

寻根文学的兴起与衰落是1980年代中国文坛的一个重要现象。综合来看,寻根文学的衰落原因有三:一、寻根作家对传统文化既赞美又批判的矛盾态度;二、寻根文学自身的理论局限;三、寻根文学的理论主张和文本创作的错位。在理论上看,寻根文学在传统与现代、愚昧与启蒙、守旧与创新等矛盾的价值判断中很难做出抉择,这些判断相互纠缠和转换,使得寻根文学最终走向衰落。

There are three factors for the decline of root-seeking literature.First,the root-seeking writers praise the traditional culture but criticize it at the same time and they repel the foreign culture but draw lessons from it too,so their confused creation mentality affects their creation.Second,the theoretic limit of root-seeking literature restricts their creation.Third,through the research of the representative writings of root-seeking literature,the writer discovers the contradiction between the writers＇ sense and sensibility and the malposition of the theoretical assertion and literature creation.
