The Effect of Input Enhancement and Topic Familiarity on Word Gains and Text Comprehension

摘要 探讨背景知识和词汇干预手段对二语学习者阅读理解过程中的词汇习得所产生的影响。受试66人,根据词汇干预类型分成注释干预组与粗体干预组,完成简答、词形辨认和词义识别等测试,测试数据用来评估学生对目标词汇的习得和对文章的理解程度。结果显示,在词汇干预作用下,单词辨识程度的提高并不总是伴随着阅读理解程度的提高,背景知识熟悉与否对阅读理解和词汇习得均产生重要的促进或阻滞作用。 This study discusses the effect of input enhancement elements and topic familiarity on word gains during meaning--focused reading. Sixty--six college students from South China University of Technology underwent dif- ferent treatments involving single glosses and bold interventions. The test data were examined for evidence of advancement in reading comprehension and lexical acquisition. Results indicate that increases in word gains through input en- hancement were not always associated with the improvement in text comprehension. Topic familiarity played an important role in both text comprehension and lexical acquisition.
