Miao Wei, Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, said during the two sessions that the national subsidies to personal purchase of new energy vehicles will be released soon. His speech will somehow settle the heated debates on the development of new energy vehicles. Without government's subsidies, some auto makers are pessimistic about their future. But the dispute between the optimistic and the conservative school continues. Based on the state's strategic vision on energy safety and environmental protection, the optimistic school consists the governments will make investments to support the development of new energy vehicles including subsidies, tax cut and infrastructure establishment. With breakthroughs in key technologies, market demands exploration and emergence of new business models, new energy auto makers enjoy a fat chance to become one of the leaders in the future auto industry. The conservative school, on the contrary, says only when the problems, such as energy supply and large scale application of clean energy, are solved can the new energy automobiles launch mass production. No one can tell which clean energy could replace petrol and apply to most autos in the next 50 years. Though there are controversies, automakers at least have reached consensus on the necessity of the development of new energy vehicles.
