Today, in the construction of socialism with Chinese characteristics, understanding Marxist view on the spiritual essence of religion and its historical background is of practical significance in dealing with religious issues, for Marxist theory of social existence detemining social consciousness can best explain religion, and serve as a guidance to the socialist construction.
