An Analysis on "Beating" Event in "By the Light of My Father’s Smile"

"鞭打"是小说《父亲的微笑之光》的核心意象。不少评论认为鲁宾逊对麦克德琳娜的鞭打,体现的是一种"父权",是一种以爱的名义实施的"所有权"。笔者通过分析认为,小说中黑人学者鲁宾逊的身份具有"双重性",鞭打麦克德琳娜的事件实质上是其互不妥协的两种灵魂矛盾斗争的结果。

＂Beating＂ is the kernel image in the novel ＂By the Light of My Father＇s Smile＂. Much criticism argues that it embodies a patriarchal control in the name of love. After a comprehensive analysis on the black father Robinson, this paper assumes that the ＂beating＂ event in the novel is actually the product of the conflict between the two souls in him.
