In Oronooko, the first travel novel in English literature history, Aphra Behn creates a literary character of the first noble savage in English and European literature history, based on the narrative mode of European romance and ethnography. Involving such prospective issues as the western modernity folding, the imperial geographical space expanding, the communication between different cultures and nations, as well as the views on civilization/savage, master/slave, self/other, and exotic aesthetics building, the novel is well worth sustained study in the current era of cross-cultural communication.
