The Scarlet Letter is one of Hawthorne＇s works which feature the descriptions of the seamy side of human nature and society. The work highlights Hawthorne＇s unique thought and understanding of human nature. It sympathizes with the kind-hearted heroine while profoundly revealing social evils and human disgraces and approves the leading role of human nature through the narration of the dreams by Hester, Dimmesdale and Chillingworth respectively.
