This research focuses on the effectiveness of parents-performed intervention on autistic children's joint at- tention in family contexts. Parents are trained to increase both initiative and responsive joint attention on the behav- ior of their children (38-56 months, M=46. 6). After an 8-week/a four-stage intervention, positive effects are ob- served in both joint attention and social interaction behavior. Differences between initiative and responsive, proto-im- perative and proto-declarative joint attention, and joint attention behavior aroused by high-level and low-level stimuli are also found and discussed. The authors suggest several factors of effective intervention, including children's inter- ests and social motives into intervention, integrating structure and non-structure strategies, basing instructions on children's current development levels. Implications for future researches are also discussed.
