在翻译实践中,由于文化背景、思维认知及固有的本族语使用差异,使英汉翻译绝对对等不可企及。翻译的对等是相对的而不对等才是绝对的。本文拟就英汉翻译中几种词层非对等现象进行探讨、分析并提出一系列翻译策略以解决英汉翻译中词层不对等现象。使目的语和源语在词的层面达到最大限度的对等。

Due to differences in respects of cultural backgrounds, cognitive thinking and established usages and idioms that have become innate to each individual language, abmlute equivalence of translation between English and Chinese is almost imtx-xssible to achieve in practice. Equivalence for one language in the other is al- ways a relative one, an absolute equivalence is almost nonexistent. In this article, the author will discuss the phenomenon of nonequivalence between English and Chinese on the level of words, analyze such nonequivalence and come up with certain solutions to problems posed by such nonequivalence to translation, with a view to achieve to the greatest extent a relative equivalence between the original and the target languages.
