William Faulkner has been regarded as one of the most outstanding representatives in American Southern Renaissance, and one of the greatest novelists in the 20th Century. A Rose for Emily, his first short story, portrays an abnormal female whose mental deformation results from the oppression on her mentality. However, he presented this eccentric, tragic lady a rose. It's safe to say that Emily Grierson is a rose faded in Jefferson, the dark house. She was in pursuit of love and marriage, meanwhile she also rebelled against what was imposed on her. Unfortunately, she had no way of removing the control of her father, and she was unable to get rid of the tiny but great connection with Jefferson.
