My Opinion on the Construction of the National Character of Contemporary Chinese Oil Painting

西方油画传入中国百余年来,从生根到发芽,早已融入我们民族艺术的百花齐放格局中。中国油画还将继续发展下去,这是一个不争的事实。但只有坚持中国油画的民族性,我们才能真正找到一条让中国油画既具有中国特色又能走向世界的道路。

Introduced into China more than a century ago, western oil painting, trom root to sprout, has already integrated into our pattern of national art. Chinese oil painting will continue to develop, which is an indisputable fact. But only by adhering to the national character of Chinese oil painting can we make it possess Chinese characteristics and go to the world.
