Famine and hunger:the anguish in the deep memory of Chinese——Natural disasters in modern literature

民国时期自然灾害频发,现代文学对此作了大量形象生动的书写,反映了灾荒下人民的苦难生活,饥饿的感觉成为中华民族记忆深处的隐痛,一直贯穿于百年中国文学记忆之中。现代文学把人性置于灾荒之下来拷问,表现了人们的觉醒与反抗。自然灾害密切了现代文学与乡土的联系,有些作品趋于简单直白的暴露与控诉,缺少含蓄与优美的意蕴。

There were many natural disasters in the history of China, and there were many descriptions about natural disaster in modem literature. Famine and hunger became the anguish in the deep memory of Chinese literature. Modem literature makes serious consideration about human nature under the background of natural disaster and shows awakening and resistance of human beings. The description of natural disasters connects literature to nature. Anyhow, some novels about natural disaster are not successful because they are full of direct descriptions and have no deep meaning.
