中医美容具有悠久的历史,其发展大致可划分为4个阶段:远古至先秦时期;秦汉三国时期;两晋至隋唐五代;宋至明清。在数千年的发展中,始终受到中国文化的熏陶,形成了理论基础深厚、方法多样、整体观念、辨证论治、神形俱美的人体审美观,文质并重,刻意妆饰的特点。80年代,现代中医美容学开始崛起,发展迅速,在理论和临床研究上都取得了很大成绩,并受到国际美容界关注。中医美容学的重新崛起,适应了医学模式的转变,因此具有广阔的发展前景。中国的医学美容工作者追求传统与现代结合,中医与西医结合,医学美容与生活美容结合,正在努力创建一个具东方文化特点的“中式美容”。

Traditional Chinese medicine cosmetic has a long history. Its development can be divided into four periods: ancient time to pre Qin Dynasty; Qin, Han, Three state Period ; Jin Dynasty to Sui, Tang and Five Dynasties; Song Dynasty to Ming, Qing Dynasty. In the course of thousands of year's development, traditional Chinese medicine cosmetic has always being affected by the Chinese culture, having the following characteristics; a solid foundation of theory, various methods, anorganic conception of the human body, diagnosis and treatment based on an overall analysis of the illness and the patient's condition, beautiful of both facial and physique's aesthetic standards of the human body, emphasis on both literary grace physique, sedulously for makeup. Modern traditional Chinese medicine cosmetic began to come up in the 1980s. It has developed rapidly and achieved great achievements in the field of theory and clinical research, to which a great deal of attention has been paid by the international cosmetology. Now that traditional Chinese medicine cosmetic has risen and adapted to the transformation of the medical model,it has a broad prospects. Chinese medical cosmeticians are seeking for combining tradition with modern; Chinese medicine with western medicine, medicinal cosmetic with daily cosmetic.
