A probe into the translator’s subjectivity on two English versions of The Art of War:focused on the translations by Lionel Giles and John Minford

译者主体性作为翻译活动得以完成的根本保证,是翻译研究的重要组成部分。本文拟选取《孙子兵法》翟林奈译本和闵福德译本中的译例,从底本选择、体例编排、文本解读和翻译策略四个方面,试对译者主体性进行探讨。

As the fundamental guarantee of it, translator＇s subjectivity plays an important part in translation studies. By analyzing and comparing the samples from two English versions of The Art of War which were translated by Lionel Giles and John Minford,this paper tries to explore the translator＇s subjectivity from four perspectives, which are the choice of the original text, stylistic rules and layout of the book, interpretation of the text, and translation strategies respectively.
