It makes great sense to expand the field of study on Chinese drama by making a fresh appraisal or evaluation of Chinese female drama. Some restrictive factors which prevent feminine self-awareness from coming into being can be discovered if we review the history of female drama. However these factors have also caused the establishment of tragic sensibilities which embody the understanding of women＇s situation, the emotional memory of traditional culture and the conflicts with the society and current thought.
