On the Indeterminacy of Language,Text and Meaning in Hawkes' "Whistlejacket"

文章论述了德里达的两个术语"延异"和"播撒"在霍克斯小说中实现词汇、文本和意义的不确定性所起的作用,表明霍克斯与德里达在理论上的相似性;指出霍克斯在开放的后现代主义文本中玩弄语言游戏,创造了自我指涉性的、语言为主角的文本和具有不确定性的人物,同时也指出这样的作品留给读者以空间和时间去重新审视和严肃思考文本中所描述的人和事。

This paper uses Derida＇s two terms ＂differance＂ and ＂dissemination＂ to analyse the the functions of the two in John Hawkes＇ work for realizing the indetermincy of the words, text for the dilution of textual meanings and shows both Hawkes and Derida are similar in the theories, and points out that Hawkes plays word games in his postmodern texts to create the self-reflexive text with the language as the main character and the characters in indetermincy,and that this kind of texts leaves the reader space and time to reinspect and re-examine the described characters and things.
