With the open of Nasdaq Stocking Market on March 26, China Lodging Group, Limited (HanTing hotels, NASDAQ: HTHT) became the first Chinese company listed on the US stock market this year. Its share price closed at USD13.92 that day. increasing 13.63%, and reached USD16.34 on April 13 with USD950 million of market value. Though a late comer, HanTing boasted a 236-hotel network across the nation and generated over RMB50 million (USD7.3 million) of profits in the second quarter of 2009, becoming the fastest growing chain hotel in China, no matter in terms of number or performance. The business hotel chain is Ji Qi's third company listed on the US stock market, after travel service portal Ctrip.com International Ltd. in 2003 and economic hotel chain Home Inn Management Co., Ltd in 2006. Ji might be the first to create three listed companies in China, each with USD1 billion of market value. Born in a farmer family in Jiangsu, Ji is always looking forward, aiming for a better status. And he insists in doing things himself, especially site selection and recruitment. That's why he nearly made no mistake in all important decisions. Taking HanTing as his last cause, Ji faces the biggest challenge ever: how to maintain the original value and corporate culture during its fast expansion.
