苏曼殊是广东珠海人,也是中国近代的文学家和翻译家。他在诗文创作方面硕果累累;在文学翻译方面,包括对英国文学、法国文学的、印度文学的译介,成绩斐然。通过深入了解其译作特点及翻译思想,可以发现,他确实是一位能与严复、林纾齐名的近代翻译大家。其翻译选材,经历了从表现功利性的政治文本到追求人性的艺术文本的转变,其翻译风格则着重表现在他善用旧体格律诗来表达译文。

Su Manshu was a man of letters and translator in modern China.As a Sino-Japanese genius,he produced an extensive literature;in literary translation,he also made plenty of outstanding achievements and was one of the earliest Chinese translators.Deep exploration and study on all of his translations,esp.his translation characteristics and thoughts,reveal that he is worthy of the call of Great Translator as Yan Fu and Lin Shu.His choice of translated materials from political texts to artistic texts shows his great translation skill of using classical poems to render the source language.
