Speech codec is the main part in the digital cellular mobile communication systems.This paper describes the principles of the GSM full rate(FR)speech codec,the GSM enhanced full rate(EFR) speech codec and that of the CDMA variable rate(VR)speech codec,gives the properties of the three speech coding schemes and makes some analysis and comparison.
