Bilingual Education and the Preservation of Mother Tongue

母语是一个民族文化的根源,智慧的结晶,它不仅是一个民族认同与整合的力量,更是一个民族延续生命的灵魂。母语一旦消失,其传统文化也将随之流逝。母语的濒危,原因很多,其中,学校母语教育的缺乏是非常重要的一个因素。因此,母语的复兴,有赖于学校的母语教学。只要选取恰当的双语教育模式,并使学校与家庭、社区紧密结合,就可以使母语在双语状态下长期保存并不断获得发展。

The mother tongue of a national culture is the root of wisdom,which is not only a national identity and integration of forces,but also a continuation of the lives of the nation＇s soul.Once the mother tongue disappeared,their traditional culture will also lapse.There are many reasons why native endangered,lacking of school education in their mother tongue is a very important factors.Therefore,the revival of the mother tongue depends on the mother-tongue teaching in schools.As long as we select the appropriate model of bilingual education,and schools and families,communities closely integrated,we can make the mother tongue in bilingual status under the long-term preservation of and continue to develope.
