OUTLINE / With the support of the Hubei Province Opera and Dance Drama Theater,playwright Wen Xinguo went to Shennongjia and Wudang Mountains to experience life there.Based on the story of Shennongjia lumbermen who put down their axes,he wrote the new opera libretto Shennongjia.This work is not simply about environmental protection,but the conflict between man and nature.After reading the script of Shennongjia,Li Kuibin reflected on the idea of Chinese opera.According to him,the essence of Chinese operatic style rests on script,music,and performance. Operatic aesthetics cannot be separated from Chinese aesthetics at large.
