中国近代博览会事业的局限性

The Limitations of Modern Chinese Exposition's Cause

近代博览会对中国社会产生了广泛而深远的影响,加快了中国近代化前进的步伐。但博览会事业的成败由于时事、国情、人事各大端而异其趣向。晚清由海关洋员把持操纵中国参与世界博览会,由海关洋员用外国的标准来阐释和规范其行为,一定程度上改变了中国参与世界博览会的内涵和意义,因此清末赛会被认为是"跛脚开放",中国近代博览会事业不可避免地存在一些局限性。

Modern Chinese Exposition made a broad and far-reaching influence for Chinese society.It accelerated the pace of progress of modern China.However,due to current affairs,national conditions and personnel matters,the success and the failure of the cause differed.In the late Qing Dynasty,Chinese participation in World Expo was manipulated by foreign custom officers,and they used foreign standards to illustrate and regulate the behavior.In consequence Chinese participation in World Expo changed in the connotation and meaning to a certain extent,and commodities fair in the late Qing is considered ＇lame open＇.There are some inevitable limitations in the cause of Chinese modern exposition.
