In the situation of self-loss, how a modem man should control and construct his real self is explored in Milan Kundera＇s Trilogy of Exile. Slowness points out that self is lost with quickness and oblivion and being is only found in slowness and memory. Identity makes clear that the identity alternation leads to self-loss and the construction of self is based on the existence of the real self. Ignorance dashes exiles＇ dreams of self-identifying with a story of an exile＇s heartrending returning experience to her native land. The trilogy indicates that man is in his never-ending journey to seLf-construction anywhere in his life and no completeness of self-construction could be achieved anytime and anywhere.
