The Epistemological Foundationsof Philosophy of Language——A Tentative Approach to the Unification of Formalism & Functionalism of Linguistics

语言学是哲学的重要分支,不断接受哲学认识理论的滋养。从哲学认识论角度来看,语言学领域一直存在"形式主义"和"功能主义"两大对立流派,两者对语言结构和意义的阐释存在较大差异。本文试图对两个流派进行比较,并对"统一"理论的建立进行尝试性的探讨。

There has been a tight relationship between linguistics and philosophy. One influences and shapes the other in understanding the nature of the minds and communications. From philosophical perspective, lin guistics is founded upon various epistemological interpretations of language. A contrary pair is formalism and functionalism. They are allegedly said to be contradictory in understanding the structure and meaning of natural languages. The paper is expected to suggest the possibilities of providing a unified theory to fuse the two theories. The research objective is to provide a coherent model in which both theories coexist in harmony rather than diverge in conflict.
