It was from Meiji 27 to 28 that Higuchi Ichiyo reached her creation peak. Being hard up, she was once forced to give up her writing and to run small business. This experience paid a basis for another height and depth for her works. The spirit of her realism bore more profound and broader meaning. It can be clearly seen from her late works such as The New Year' s Eve, Troubled Waters, The Thirteenth Night, Child's Play, and parts of her diaries, that as a female writer, Higuchi Ichiyo observed and displayed the realistic world with her sober and objective attitudes. She fused together the romantic sentiment and the realistic soul harmoniously, and with this fusion, her works had a unique feature.
