In order to study the histological effect of circulatory stress, a circulatory stress stimulator with preset criteria is employed in 86 animal models of New Zealand rabbits to test the effect of promotion of the healing of radius fracture. The opposite radii of each animal are used as the controls. Gross specimens are collected on scheduled dates for 'three- point bending stress' and other biomechanical determinations, sections are obtained for histological investigations, and semi - quantitative deter - mination of the callus is carried out under a light microscope. The results show that as compared with the controls, the proportion of bone trabeculae and the quantity of inorganic salt deposits in the experimental radii increased with the time of fracture healing. In the 15 - day and 30 - day specimens, the difference between the two groups is significant(P<0.01), and is in agreement with the numerical rule of positive stress of bending. This shows that circulatory stress promotes the proliferation of osteoblasts, and the maturation and reconstruction of callus, and hence it is helpful to the healing of fracture.
