Based on memetics and translation memetics, language itself is a kind of meme. And the C-E transla- tion of Chinese public signs can be regarded as the cross-cultural copy and transmission of memes or memeplexes in the public signs meme pool. Therefore, a public signs translation meme pool should be established to discuss the trans- lation methods and strategies for C-E translation of public signs by analyzing the cross-cultural copy and transmission modes of public signs memes in the meme pool.
