摘要
佛教雕塑背光图像是佛教造像艺术的一个重要组成部分,但它不是一般的装饰图案,它既受到佛教教义之限制,又遇到本土文化的融摄。在传统文化语境中,以圆形为主的佛教雕塑背光的外形象征着圆满、圆通、圆融,而其火焰纹、莲花纹、飞天纹、植物纹等装饰纹样则不仅是佛教造像艺术的重要元素,也是中华文化的表征。
The background-images are most significant components in Buddhist imaging. Nevertheless, they do not serve as ornamental designs in general but are confined and informed respectively by Buddhist doctrines and the native culture. In the context of Chinese traditional culture, while the circular figures which are the most prevailed ones of the background-images symbolize fulfillment, smooth-going as well as incorporation, the textures of flame, lotus, flying fairy, various plants and so forth not only constitute the critical ingredients of Buddhist sculptures, but represent the Chinese culture.
