英汉语标点符号多维对比

A Multi-dimensional Contrastive Study of English and Chinese Punctuations

世界语言同异并存是普遍现象,对英汉语标点符号系统从四个方面进行了较为系统、全面的多维对比研究。研究结果表明:在数量和种类方面,汉语标点符号略多于英语标点符号;在使用频率方面,英汉语标点符号系统均以逗号为高频率和较难掌握的符号;在命名依据方面,汉语标点符号均依据符号的功能来命名,而英语标点符号的名称依据多元,形态和功能兼而有之;在类别对照方面,两套标点符号系统之间呈现出英有汉无、汉有英无、英汉均有但小同大异三种情况。英汉语标点符号的多维异同现象,可以丰富英汉语对比研究,为英语教学和翻译提供实践指南。

It is believed that world languages are diverse and also share some universals in many aspects. Thist paper attempts to make a comprehensive contrastive study of English and Chinese punctuation system （EP/CP） from a multi-dimensional perspective. The result indicates that EP is slightly more than CP in number; comma is considered as a category the most frequently used and the most difficult to master in both systems; CP is termed mainly on the basis of function of punctuation while EP is named based on both function and form of punctuation; two types of punctuation gaps as well as shared categories with obvious differences exist between EP and CP. The phenomenon of similarities and differences of EP and CP in many respects can enrich EP -CP contrastive study and give instructions for English language teaching and translation.
