Purpose： to identify Paris polyphylla and bistort, pointing out that in practieal applications they can not be misused. Methods： identify the Paris polyphylta and bistort by the crude drugs and character reference, from the pharmacological differences between Paris polyphylla and bistort clinical application. Results： Paris polyphylla and bistort are both crude drugs of rootstock. They can also be called Caoheche and Saoxiu, which causes improper usage of the phenomenon of homonym. Because the crude drugs and character reference are different, you can identify the two characters to distinguish species.Conclusion： The pharmacological effects and clinical applications of Paris polyphylla and bistort are different.
